Position Overview:
The Paint Prepper plays a critical role in the refinishing process by ensuring that vehicles are properly prepared for painting. This includes sanding, masking, priming, and cleaning surfaces to achieve optimal adhesion and a flawless final finish. The Paint Prepper works closely with the paint team to maintain efficiency, quality, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Sand, grind, and clean vehicle surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Masking and Taping: Carefully mask off areas that will not receive paint to ensure crisp, clean lines and prevent overspray.
- Body Filler Assistance: Assist painters and body technicians by applying, shaping, and smoothing body fillers as needed.
- Quality Control: Inspect surfaces for imperfections, rust, or contaminants and communicate any concerns to the paint team.
- Paint Booth Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of paint mixing and spray booths, ensuring all equipment and tools are in proper working condition.
- Inventory Management: Track and maintain supplies such as sandpaper, tape, cleaning solvents, and other prep materials. Report low stock to appropriate personnel.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper handling of hazardous materials, and adherence to OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with painters, estimators, and body technicians to ensure vehicles move seamlessly through the repair and refinishing process.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Paint Prepper or in a similar role in an automotive repair or body shop environment.
- Knowledge of vehicle refinishing processes and preparation techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when required.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and guidelines in a body shop environment.
