Position Summary: The Feed Department Foreman oversees all aspects of the feed department, ensuring quality control, operational efficiency, and team management. This role plays a critical part in optimizing cattle performance and coordinating feed operations with other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage daily operations, including:
Daily flaker operation.
Quality assurance on feed and documentation.
Feed distribution team.
Milling team.
Lead, manage, and develop a team of approximately 8 personnel.
Monitor feed intakes, bunk conditions, and cattle behavior to ensure proper feed presentation and consumption.
Schedule ration step-up programs.
Collaborate with consultants to optimize cattle performance and health.
Communicate effectively with other yard departments to ensure smooth operations.
Train and become proficient in bunk scoring and feed calling.
Prepare and follow preventative maintenance schedules for all feeding equipment.
Coordinate feeding and milling schedules with the Mill Batch Operator.
Evaluate personnel performance and bonuses.
Conduct monthly housekeeping inspections to maintain cleanliness and organization.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or 5 years of experience in cattle feeding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Strong understanding of OSHA guidelines.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.
Ability to perform basic math functions.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret instructions in various formats (written, oral, diagrams, or schedules).
Work Environment:
Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and toxic chemicals.
Regular vibration exposure and occasional high or precarious places.
Outdoor weather conditions and loud noise levels.
Regular physical demands, including standing, climbing, lifting over 100 pounds, and using hands to touch or handle equipment.
