Maintenance Purchasing Agent

SUMMARY:

Coordinates all activities related to procuring parts for Knouse Foods facilities. Determines best method of procurement, generates purchase orders and ensures generation of appropriate work orders. Functions as a liaison between Knouse Foods personnel and part suppliers and contractors performing work in facilities. Discusses and reconciles defective and unacceptable parts and service and returns unwanted parts. Provides assistance to line mechanics and administers all processes to facilitate work orders and purchase orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following

• Keeps production lines running by obtaining parts via contacting part suppliers to obtain price quotations on parts required for work orders. Investigates costs of alternate suppliers of parts and contacts vendors to ensure and expedite delivery of parts. Coordinates return of defective or unwanted parts. Ensures work orders are generated to cover all parts related to purchase orders.

• Maintains supply of parts to service lines by investigating part order numbers, availability, and order status utilizing the Knouse Foods on-line systems. Arranges for interplant transfer of parts to stock or to a work order. Coordinates with stockroom personnel regarding availability and usage of parts. Conducts searches for parts supply for plant equipment. Responds to plant maintenance personnel inquiries as to status of parts orders.

• Ensures lowest prices for functionality of parts by placing part orders with outside machine shops, equipment manufacturer, or equipment OEM suppliers. Gathers competitive pricing from parts suppliers. Assists in solving of vendor part problems by contacting vendor technical support and investigating potential solutions.

• Provides and supplies vendor information to employees by maintaining a vendor library consisting of vendor contacts, line cards and pricing information. Utilizes vendor information to obtain preliminary quotations for equipment related, to capital project formulation and estimates.

• Presents management with options and costs by acting as a liaison between contractors, parts suppliers and plant management, maintenance personnel, and Knouse Foods corporate purchasing. Provides reports as requested.

• Prevents machine breakdown by running and distributing preventative maintenance work orders.

• Manages the release of all purchase orders placed by the Corporate Purchasing or Maintenance Department such as but not limited to: Pest Control Services, Forklift, Boiler and Water Treatment.

• Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Contributes to the Company effort by continually looking for ways to improve productivity and customer orientation within department by use of better technology, procedures and use of resources.

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences:

Ø Requires knowledge that is acquired through a pertinent business degree or it equivalent in experience.

Ø One year work related experience in receiving.

Ø Knowledge of office procedures, methods and computers including spreadsheet applications.

Ø Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ø Ability to communicate in English and understand information one-on-one and in small groups. Ability to communicate with vendors and Knouse employees.

Ø Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ø Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ø Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and demographic backgrounds.

Ø Ability to maintain confidential information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is mostly sedentary with exposure to both the office and plant environment. Must be able to stand, walk, and climb.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS: Must possess valid motor vehicle operator’s license that is not under suspension or revocation and possess automobile insurance coverage.
