About the Role:
Knouse Foods Cooperative is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Water Service Technician to join our team. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities related to water management, including sampling, testing, treating, and maintaining raw, potable, and wastewater systems. The position also involves ensuring safety compliance, maintaining equipment, and supporting environmental stewardship in and around the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and test water samples from wells, wastewater fields, streams, creeks, lagoons, homes, and plant facilities.
- Analyze chemical levels, including phosphate, sulfate, chlorine, alkalinity, conductivity, and hardness.
- Document results, identify deviations from standards, and implement corrective actions.
Water Treatment and Management:
- Treat raw water, boiler and cooler water, and wastewater to meet quality standards.
- Operate, monitor, and adjust chlorine systems, including liquid, gaseous, and solid HTH.
- Add salt to water softeners and adjust dealkalizers as needed.
- Maintain reservoir and fire pit water levels, raking intake pipes and managing excess water from tarps.
Equipment Maintenance and Chemical Handling:
- Perform minor maintenance on chlorine equipment, pumps, and injectors.
- Coordinate with purchasing agents to store bulk water treatment chemicals appropriately.
- Clean and maintain UV lights in plant water systems.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety procedures and regulations.
- Monitor for signs of water tampering and immediately report concerns to supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Clear snow and ice from paths to sampling areas during winter.
- Recycle and manage empty chemical drums and barrels.
- Pump standing water from low-lying areas after heavy rainfall.
- Prepare and complete detailed reports, forms, and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Proficient in reading, interpreting, and writing reports in English.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Strong problem-solving and deductive reasoning abilities.
- Physically capable of lifting/moving up to 100 lbs and working in varied environments.
- Must hold a valid state driver’s license.
Work Environment:
- Frequent exposure to outdoor weather, fumes, caustic chemicals, and moderate noise levels.
- Regular standing, walking, climbing ladders, balancing, and manual handling tasks.
- Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, as needed.
Shift Information:
- Availability to work all shifts and adapt to time changes within shifts.
