Job Summary:
At Knudson Lumber Co Inc, cashiers are expected to operate a checkout counter and help answer customers’ questions. Cashiers are important to providing an outstanding customer service experience consistent with company values. Cashiers are often the first employees customers see upon entering the store. Therefore, it is important that cashiers be ready to create an outstanding first impression every time. A cashier’s job will include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits
- Greet customers entering establishments
- Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers
- Assist customers by providing information and resolving their complaints
- Answer customers' questions and provide information on procedures or policies
- Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and complete other general cleaning duties, such as mopping floors and emptying trash cans
- Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change
- Compile and maintain non-monetary reports and records
- Offer customers carry-out service after transactions
- Ensure that at least one Checkout is always attended
- Calculate costs of goods or services
- Weigh items sold by weight to determine prices
- Stock shelves, sort and reshelve returned items, and mark prices on items and shelves
- Request information or assistance using paging systems
- Answer incoming phone calls
- Any other duties deemed necessary by management
Qualifications:
- Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
- Team player with a willingness to contribute wherever needed.
- Good math and cash register skills.
- Have a general understanding of store merchandise with a willingness to continually expand knowledge.
- Capacity to follow through on assignments and self-motivated to stay busy throughout the day.
- Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Highly organized, ability to multi-task with acute attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and management.
- Able to repetitively lift at least 50 lbs as needed to carry out cashier duties.
- Understand how to efficiently operate the store’s point-of-sale system.
