POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Kokomo is seeking part-time Summer Day Camp Counselors who are enthusiastic, energetic, and compassionate with a strong desire to positively impact the lives of young children. Under the supervision of the Camp Directors and Assistant Camp Director, the Summer Camp Counselor leads fun, enriching activities for school-age children participating in summer day camp at beautiful Camp Tycony.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Effectively engages with the children and provides sound supervision of all children in assigned group, including taking regular head counts.
2. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
3. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
4. Supervises the children attending day camp, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.
5. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
6. Cultivates positive relationships, and maintains effective communication
with parents.
7. Attends all mandatory staff meetings and trainings, including child abuse prevention.
8. Maintains required program records, if applicable.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. At least 18 years of age.
3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention trainings and Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens training.
4. Reliable transportation to attend work.
5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
day camp activities.
6. Good communication and organizational skills.
7. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and Praesidium background check.
8. Positive, service-oriented attitude serving diverse groups of people in regard to age, abilities, ethnicity, gender, race, economic status, religion, etc.
9. Team player willing to contribute to the culture, mission, and values of the YMCA.
