What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Koopman Lumber?
As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in our team by examining project plans, assessing specifications, and creating precise estimates for construction projects.
Estimator Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to produce accurate cost estimates for construction projects.
- Collaborate with salespersons, architects, and engineers to gather necessary information for estimating purposes.
- Utilize estimating software and tools like Microsoft Excel, Office, PDF Editor, and PlanSwift for quantity take-offs and detailed cost estimations.
- Obtains bids from vendors by identifying appropriate sources of materials, providing a clear scope of work, and including relevant drawings and specifications.
- Maintains manufacturer's catalogues and assembly instructions as needed to provide accurate bill of materials.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains quality standards by following organization protocols.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related requirements as needed.
- Experience as an estimator in the construction industry preferred.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience as an estimator in the construction industry. Preferred
- Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of residential wood-frame construction is preferred, as is familiarity with current building codes including the 2015IRC, 2015IECC, and relevant Massachusetts Amendments.
- Strong computer skills are necessary, the ability to use or learn Epicor’s BisTrack software.
- Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (Microsoft Excel, Office, PDF Editor, and PlanSwift).
- Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Effective communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines.
