What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Staff position at Kootasca Community Action?
Establish rapport and build relationships with assigned families while providing necessary and individualized support in order for families to get out of poverty. Assist clients in identifying and eliminating personal, social, financial, education, and employment barriers that result in poverty and/or dependency on public assistance, while working to ensure the compliance of Head Start Performance Standards. This position works as a valued member of a team with other Head Start employees to maintain the best outcomes for participant families.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or related field
- Preferred: Associates or Two Year Degree in related field.
- Family Development Specialist Certification or willingness to obtain through the agency.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, Sudden Unexplained Infant Death, and Preventing Abusive Head Trauma, or willingness to obtain through agency.
- Experience in the Human Services field, and working with families, children and community services.
- DHS Background Study Clearance
- Valid Driver’s License
- Employee Health Certification w/i 90 days of hire.

- Site: Grand Rapids Early Childhood HUB
- Daytime weekday schedule
Training Schedule:
- Daytime weekday schedule
- 40 Hours/Week from date of hire and through 2025-2026 school year
Ongoing Schedule:
- Daytime weekday schedule
- 40 Hours/Week Work from mid-July through April
- Scheduled layoff May through mid-July
Compensation
- Entry Wage of $20.21/hour
- Wage Scale of $20.21 to $29.20
