Supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals, KCS/KCC strives to provide impactful programs that meet the diverse needs of the community.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The NJ Education Department seeks a passionate and skilled part-time Debate Instructor to teach middle school students (rising 7th and 8th graders) for an intensive two-week summer program (August 18th – August 29th) in Tenafly, NJ. The instructor will lead engaging, skills-based sessions on public speaking, argument development, critical thinking, and structured debate formats. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming and stimulating environment where students can build confidence, learn debate fundamentals, and practice respectful communication and persuasive speaking.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver debate lessons covering structure, strategy, and public speaking skills.
- Facilitate mock debates and encourage respectful discussion and critical analysis.
- Provide individual feedback and support to help students develop confidence and clarity in their arguments.
- Foster a collaborative and respectful classroom environment.
- Monitor and assess student progress throughout the program.
- Ensure proper classroom setup and cleanup before and after each session.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, English, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching or coaching debate or public speaking is required.
- Instructional Skills: Ability to deliver engaging, student-centered lessons tailored to middle school learners.
- Classroom Management: Ability to maintain an inclusive, well-managed learning environment.
- Technology: Familiarity with digital literacy tools and educational platforms is preferred.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English.
- Availability: Must be able to commute to the NJ site and commit to the entire two-week program.
Compensation
$45-55/hr
