Organization Overview: Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc (KCS) was founded in 1973 to provide social services to the Korean population in the greater New York area. KCS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that receives support from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. The organization's primary objective is to offer various social service programs that cater to the community's diverse needs. To achieve this goal, KCS provides professional services in immigration, education, aging, workforce development, public health, and mental health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist low-income individuals with applying for healthcare, managed long-term care, SNAP, and other social services as needed. Perform screenings to determine client eligibility before assisting clients with benefit applications.
- Conduct off-site outreach, screen for eligibility requirements, and provide intake services to connect individuals with essential services.
- Advocate for members and serve as a liaison for the clients we represent. Assist with Medicaid issues related to enrollment, referrals, denials, and recertifications, as well as medical billing. Escalate communication for clients in complex or time-sensitive situations.
- Maintain accurate and secure data entry in KCS’s databases and facilitate the safe transfer of client information.
- Organize records, files, and spreadsheets associated with the program and related projects. Adhere to confidentiality protocols and HIPAA operating procedures to protect organization and client information.
- Collaborate with multiple cross-departmental agencies, including the Department of Health (DOH) and regional support centers, to develop a comprehensive knowledge database of relevant, up-to-date resources.
- Support information sessions and community engagement activities, as well as assist in organizing support meetings and training workshops.
- Ensure that communication, outreach, referrals, and engagement strategies are culturally and culturally sensitive.
- Maximize performance in the organization's quality reporting programs and improve health outcomes by identifying and collecting data on healthcare barriers, addressing these issues with members, and using the data to inform future planning for care access, health equity, and network expansions.
- Attend quarterly webinars, in-person regional meetings, and participate in community engagement activities to promote program awareness.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field is preferred; an associate's degree with a minimum of two (2) years of full-time professional experience is required. Experience in direct service within social or human service organizations, including nonprofits, is preferred. Knowledge of insurance, health services, and community resources related to exceptional health care needs, navigating social service eligibility and budgeting guidelines a plus.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to serving communities and empowering underserved populations, with an understanding of culturally sensitive practices and a proven ability to thrive while working with diverse populations.
- Preference given to candidates who speak English, Korean, and Chinese (written and spoken required).
- Excellent customer service and communication skills. Highly organized, flexible, and adept at multitasking.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of a team, problem-solve, and collaborate effectively with clients, partners, and stakeholders. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual platforms, with strong data entry skills.
- Ability to safely handle physical tasks, including transferring up to 15 pounds.
- Attend outdoor events, with the ability to work evenings and weekends as occasionally needed.
Work Environment and Conditions:
- KCS primary headquarters is located in Bayside, Queens, with additional satellite offices across NY/NJ.
- Comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather conditions as needed for outreach and community engagement activities.
- Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, training sessions, and community events.
- Adaptable to a dynamic and fast-paced environment, demonstrating the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills are essential to ensure timely execution of program objectives.
Compensation:
- Salary: $24 per hour / paid twice a month
- Hours: 24 hours per week, including evenings and weekends, as necessary
