Job Overview:
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, from budgeting and forecasting to tracking expenses and reporting. This role requires close collaboration with project managers, subcontractors, and the finance team to maintain accurate financial records and ensure project costs remain aligned with budgets. The ideal candidate has a solid background in accounting, experience in the construction or home building industry, and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with company financial goals.
- Track and analyze project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses, providing timely reports to project managers and leadership.
- Process and review invoices, manage vendor payments, and ensure timely approval for accurate job costing.
- Reconcile project accounts and maintain accurate project cost records.
- Collaborate with project managers to forecast cash flow needs and address any budget variances.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to project financials.
- Prepare financial reports for stakeholders, detailing project financial performance, cost variance analysis, and margin analysis.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, and relevant regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 2 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction or home building industry.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting principles and cost-tracking methodologies.
- Proficiency in accounting software and construction management systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Procore).
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manage and analyze large datasets.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
