JOB SUMMARY
The Crop Shop Heavy Maintenance Technician II is responsible for oversight, direction, troubleshooting, diagnosing and high-quality repairs on trucks and heavy equipment in a field/shop environment while providing superior customer service. This position covers all rolling equipment utilized by the Kreher Family Farms crops, eggs, and compost/fertilizer divisions. This is a hands-on lead mechanic position that will oversee the on-site crop shop.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES

Leadership:

Corrects potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Adheres to and understands standard operating procedures.
Follows technical, quality and safety systems in place and determines appropriate action.
Performance:
Perform basic and advanced mechanical duties, including trouble shooting, diagnostics and repair of equipment in the field, needs to be familiar with all makes of equipment.
Performs electronic engine diagnosis and troubleshooting.
Travel to remote locations if necessary.
Experience with diagnostic tools.
Review 3rd party invoices to ensure repairs and costs are in line.
Partner with 3rd party suppliers to monitor repairs and ensure timely turnaround to keep utilization of assets high.
Understands and complies with all DOT rules and regulations.
Regular attendance is an essential requirement of the job.
Works mandatory overtime on a weekly basis.
Follow any other job-related duties/functions requested by the supervisor.
Complies with operating procedures.
Work in coordination with other departments.
Reporting productivity monthly
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Capabilities and traits essential to perform satisfactorily
Advanced knowledge in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered trucks and heavy equipment.
Ability to read and understand mechanical equipment specifications.
Technical knowledge in operation and function of all previously listed equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues remotely and provide guidance to field crew.
Provide leadership, guidance and direction to crop shop staff.
Communicate with KFF operational leadership on repair status and needs.
Manage routine maintenance schedules and communicate to crop leadership.
Develop internal processes in line with industry standard service and maintenance guidelines.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective listening skills.
Ability to meet work goals and deadlines.
Ability to work long hours and weekends during primary crop seasons and varied schedule based on weather.
CDL-A driver’s license required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma is required.
Associate degree in diesel technology or a related field is preferred.
ASE Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician Certification is preferred.
Minimum of seven years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, or Associates degree in diesel technology and three years of experience is required.
Must have NYS Inspectors License
Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to work both a diesel repair shop environment as well as on the road and in agricultural operations environment. Physical exertion is required. Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, temperature changes, diesel repair shop and agricultural noise and hazards are frequent.
