Job Purpose :

The Mechanical Design Engineer for Tanks & Vessels is responsible creating models, and as built drawings for the shop floor. The individual in this role will provide real time engineering guidance on the shop floor as needed. The Mechanical Design Engineer will also lead procurement specifications for all piping, tubing, and structural materials outlined in the developed model. In addition, this position will aid in cost estimation of the mechanical systems and labor hours during proposal development.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

Creation and modification of parts for materials & components.
Develop comprehensive models of equipment and structural assemblies.
Maintain all-inclusive 2D & 3D model of system mechanical layout.
Construct Piping models for interconnectivity of all system assemblies.
Adherence in design of all models to sanitary requirements, engineering standards, and equipment installation guidelines.
Presentation for and collaboration with team members and customers for review of developed models for acceptance.
Generate detailed manufacturing drawings for production of all developed models.
Develop and manage comprehensive Bill of Material for purchase of specified materials and parts.
Cost estimation of the mechanical systems and labor hours during proposal development.
Travel to different facilities and / or customer sites as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications :

Education : Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Experience / Training : 3-6 years of experience in a related field.

Professional Skills

Technology Proficiency with PCs, Mobile Devices, Windows Operating system, and Microsoft Office Suite, with ability to learn new software packages as required.

Experience in Auto Cad Inventor (preferred) will consider candidates with other 3D modeling software experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present professionally to internal team members and external customers.

Takes initiative and is capable of developing solutions for complex problems.

Maintains high quality standards and provides dependable results for team members and customers.

Ability to understand P&ID drawings and perform all necessary calculations for development of responsible modeling and drawing responsibilities.

Soft Skills

General social skills, capacity for teamwork, problem-solving competence, general project management, time- and self-management, coordination and organizational skills, and communication skills.

Physical / Working Demands

The work environment is a professional office environment where a conservative business dress code is in effect. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position will require visits to the manufacturing floor as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to type, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Equipment use includes computer, calculator, measuring devices.

Ability to understand both spoken and written directions and good vision required.

Personal protective equipment required includes protective toed safety shoes and safety glasses with side shields (when on the manufacturing floor).

Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies / procedures. Each employee is to place environment, health and safety requirements as the first priority in the performance of their work duties. An employee is responsible for notifying their immediate supervisor of a violation or deficiency in working conditions and for recommending corrective measures, if possible. Additionally, the employee’s immediate supervisor is to be notified of every injury or illness or near miss.

Appropriate OSHA safety training is required.
