Position Description

General Summary

Apprentice Lineman are responsible for following the direction of the Journeyman Lineman and Line Supervisor in the safe and proper installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical and/or communication lines per GO 95 specs. Apprentice Linemen are responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining digger derricks, bucket trucks, and associated tools assigned to them. It is also the responsibility of the Apprentice Lineman to help set up the job site to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area and doing meet and greet as required with visiting personnel.

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
  • Responsible for Daily Shift validations.
  • Must possess a current CDL.
  • Engage in morning safety tailgate meeting.
  • Be aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres and mitigate hazards associated with accessing job site and transportation clearances.
  • Be actively involved in Behavioral Safety Process.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Journeyman Lineman and/or Line Foreman.
  • Follow all KS Industries, LP safety, and customer policies and procedures.
  • Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
  • Ability to communicate with fellow employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability/willingness to use Stop Work Authority (SWA)
  • Ability to complete training for Behavioral Safety Process
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of industry specific safety standards
  • Knowledge of electrical operating principles of motors and electrical apparatus.
  • Knowledge of local electrical codes
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and written reference material
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to use hand and power tools

Education and Experience

Preferably 1 year of industry experience.

Lifting/Pulling/Jerking/Grasping/Raising/Lowering: Must be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.) Must be able to raise and lower objects from one level to another.

Squatting/Twisting/Bend/Reaching/Stooping/Squatting/Kneeling: Must be able to twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects.

Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.

Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
