Accountant
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Type: Full-Time | On-site
We’re excited to partner with Cedar Valley Steel, a respected and growing commercial contractor in Cedar Rapids, to find an experienced Accountant to manage daily financial operations and administrative support.
While this role primarily serves Cedar Valley Steel, it may also assist affiliated companies within their broader family of businesses—offering variety and exposure to a dynamic business ecosystem.
The right candidate is confident, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. This role focuses on payroll, AP/AR, and cash management—not on financial statement prep, though that experience is a plus. Experience with financial statement preparation or accrual accounting is not required—but would be a welcome bonus. Responsibilities may evolve over time based on the organization’s needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, payment processing, vendor set-up, verifying invoice accuracy against quotes or purchase orders, reconciling statements, and preparing bank deposits.
- Process union and non-union payroll and handle fringe benefit/tax reporting
- Prepare, file, and reconcile payroll and sales tax returns in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Maintain organized financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards
- Support the financial team with additional tasks and special projects as needed
- Perform general administrative duties including opening and distributing mail, monitoring office supply levels, and providing day-to-day support to the leadership team
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 5 years of accounting experience (construction or manufacturing preferred)
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent hands-on experience
- Solid understanding of general accounting principles, practices, and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Experience with accounting software (Sage 300 CRE/Timberline or Acumatica is a plus)
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
- Professional interpersonal skills and a service-minded attitude
