Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller

Our client is a Shared Service Company that provides a variety of support to a family of manufacturing and construction companies around strategy and solutions.
They are currently seeking a Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller to join their finance team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This position requires a proactive, team-oriented leader who can thrive in a fast-paced growing organization. The ideal candidate will have tax knowledge and experience managing multiple companies simultaneously.
This position will have broad responsibility across corporate and operational financial and accounting functions. This is a hands-on role that requires someone who is able to support both accounting and finance responsibilities as well as not being afraid to dive into the details on a day-to-day basis.

This is a hands-on position that requires transaction processing, account reconciliation and financial reporting skills. Duties include:
- Responsible for accurate general ledger accounting including month-end close, account reconciliations, and analyses
- Assist in developing team members, leading the financial integration of new acquisitions, and working closely with various business units to provide required financial information and analysis that support the growth of business
- Maintain and develop an internal control structure that ensures the integrity of information maintained in all financial areas
- · Provides monthly financial support to the family of companies by compiling monthly financial reports and processing and posting all accounting activity, including month end journal entries/accruals; assure all expenses are recorded in the month incurred; distribute departmental performance reports; analyze spending variances
- Ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Maintains knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards
- Be a proactive leader in seeking to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the organizations' procedures, compliance activities and systems
- Streamline inefficiencies within the organization; develop systems and processes that minimize the number of resources to complete tasks, while maintaining the strongest level of internal controls
- Provide training to the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly reconciliations, journal entries, etc.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required; Accounting preferred; CPA desirable
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in accounting in manufacturing or construction
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must (proactively communicates status, issues, conflicts, and priorities up, down and across the engagement team)
- Ability to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously plus excellent analytical and decision making skills
- Experience in a public accounting firm, consulting firm or other professional services environment preferred but not required
- Experience with business taxation and preparing and/or reviewing tax returns
- Working knowledge of tax code and technical aspects of tax preparation and compliance
- Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills along with the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to adapt to change effectively
- Must be willing to travel occasionally to company locations within the Midwest and Southwest regions as needed
