What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at West Music?
This position will work closely with the CFO and is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate financial information for specific divisions and functions within West Music. The Assistant Controller supports effective fiscal planning, reporting, and attainment of West Music’s strategic goals and objectives and provides current financial statements regarding West Music’s performance. This position may also have lead responsibilities associated with key functions within the Accounting department. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring that data required for internal accounting and external governmental reporting is accumulated accurately and timely. Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team will be vital to success in this role.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following based on the needs of the business:
- Advanced Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Expertly prepare, review, and maintain detailed financial reports including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Prepare and monitor sales tax permits and file monthly returns.
- Manage month end closing process including assigned journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Assist CFO with financial budgets and projections.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of complex financial reports. Identify trends, draw meaningful insights, and provide strategic recommendations for optimal financial performance.
- File various sales and use tax filings.
- Budget Excellence: Collaborate with the CFO to employ sophisticated data tools in developing and preparing comprehensive budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Complete survey’s for peer groups and governmental reporting.
Strategic Advisory Support:
- Provide high-level support to the CFO in financial decision-making processes, using data-driven insights to inform strategic recommendations.
- Perform Business Analytics for various areas of the business and make independent judgment on proposed action plans including analyzing and compiling dashboard statistics and other financial and non-financial data for distribution internally.
Divisional Accounting responsibilities:
- Provide all accounting services for several West Music divisions to include monthly reporting, initiating wire transfers, account reconciliation, and analyzing complex reporting.
- Continuous Improvement through Technology: Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting function for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
- Complies with all federal, state and local requirements
- Follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Implement, train, and maintain strict proprietary and confidential document security in all media
- Back up Accounting department functions as necessary.
Education, Experience & Qualifications –
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2 years of senior level accounting experience
- Familiarity with accounting and finance principles and procedures
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and ability to multi-task
- Intermediate experience level with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook. Experience with Navision is a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
