Position Summary:
- The Shared Living Specialist’s responsibilities are to provide direct support, ongoing training, and continued services to the Shared Living Providers (SLP’s) that are certified and trained through KVC and have placement of an Individual(s) with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities. Shared Living Specialists will work to ensure that support and community resources are available for each SLP and for any Individuals placed within their care. Leadership is required within all essential job functions and is demonstrated through positive and appropriate communication, community collaborations, excellent customer service, business and professional integrity. The Shared Living Specialist will have passion and respect for the mission and vision of the organization. Will meet outcomes to provide excellent services to individuals, youth, and families and will help create a positive perspective of the overall public image of the organization.
Schedule:
- Hybrid; in office Thursdays and as needed
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
Experience:
- Two plus years of Developmental Disabilities, Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice, and/or Mental Health Assessment and Treatment experience required.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Requires Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as Outlook email
Certification/Licensure:
- At least 21 years old
- Valid Drivers License
- Valid Auto Insurance
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned according to qualification of staff and development of programs.
20% Training
- The Shared Living Specialist will assist in the initial and ongoing training of all KVC SLP’s. KVC will look to SLP’s for feedback and suggestions on areas of need to enhance their skills to provide care for Nebraska’s individuals with Developmental Disabilities. The Shared Living Specialist will provide ongoing training and support sessions for SLP’s individualized for the Individuals’ in their home. The Shared Living Specialist will also connect with community partners that are able to present to serve, train, provide resources, and enhance the care to Individuals served in KVC’s Shared Living service.
40% Ongoing Support & Crisis Management
- Providing care to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities is a challenging task. A Shared Living Specialist must be available to SLP’s around the clock (on-call) to provide ongoing support, crisis support, and advocacy. Shared Living Specialists will conduct home visits and will maintain at least weekly phone contact with each SLP who have an Individual(s) placed in their home. Shared Living Specialists will also provide support by attending ISP meetings and other necessary meetings or appointments with the Individual and/or the SLP. Shared Living Specialists will also advocate on the SLP and Individuals’ behalf to professionals ensuring needs are being met and to guarantee the best care is being provided to the individuals served by KVC in the Shared Living service.

- Documentation Shared Living Specialists will ensure all required documentation is completed and filed in a timely manner in the appropriate location. Shared Living Specialists will complete monthly data collection, file audits, progress reports, and financial oversight via Representative Payee (for those applicable Individuals). Shared Living Specialists will participate in Rights Review Committee meetings bi-annually after providing documentation of restrictions, medications, and GER’s to the committee.
