What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hardware Test Engineer Senior position at Kyler Professional Search?
Our client is a pioneering force in advanced medical diagnostics, operating at the cutting edge of technology to produce groundbreaking systems that only a select few companies in the world can rival. With 20 years of innovation, they are evolving from an R&D-driven organization into a full-fledged commercial electronics manufacturing powerhouse. Their mission? To revolutionize healthcare diagnostics with unparalleled precision and reliability.
This is a rare opportunity to join a company that fabricates radiation detectors unlike any other in the industry. By combining materials science, electrical engineering, and mechanical ingenuity, they are creating products that set new industry benchmarks.
The Role: Test Engineer
Our client seeks a dynamic and hands-on Test Engineer to own and transform their product testing systems. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, innovative thinking, and a proactive approach to elevate the quality and efficiency of testing processes. This role is pivotal in driving the transition from manual, small-batch R&D testing to scalable, high-volume testing for commercial OEM customers.
What You’ll Do:
- Take ownership of multiple manual testing systems currently in use. These systems, while effective for R&D, require significant improvements in throughput, repeatability, and maintenance.
- Maintain and enhance existing test systems while planning and executing the implementation of new hardware and software to achieve higher quality, throughput, and maintainability.
- Leverage your knowledge of high-volume electrical testing environments to introduce cutting-edge technologies such as automation, instrumentation, and robust data storage and handling solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new testing solutions into the manufacturing workflow.
About the Testing Environment:
- Our client’s systems are currently low-throughput and manual, involving extensive technical expertise for operation.
- Your mission is to improve these systems for high-volume production, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of commercial manufacturing.
- You will play a critical role in shaping the future of product testing for a one-of-a-kind radiation detector.
What Sets This Role Apart:
You’ll work with a sensor technology that integrates ceramic crystals, manufactured in-house, with advanced electronics. This is not your average PCB testing role – it’s a chance to work with sensor modules and materials that push the boundaries of innovation.
What We’re Looking For:
Our client has identified four essential qualifications for success in this role:
- Industry Experience: 5 or more years in a commercial facility (not academia) focused on manufacturing and testing sensors or electronics. Candidates with experience exclusively in PCB design or software engineering will not be a fit.
- Applicable Education: B.S. Degree in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering
- Hands-On Expertise: Proven ability to maintain and troubleshoot commercial test systems, addressing hardware and software issues in production environments.
- High-Volume Testing Background: Experience in high-throughput organizations (e.g., Westinghouse, Phillips, MSA, Intel) with exposure to testing volumes of 100,000 tests per month.
- Proactive Mindset: Demonstrated examples of a hands-on, energetic, and self-driven approach in a commercial manufacturing setting.
Preferred Experience:
- Working with sensor modules and materials, including material science and electrical engineering (input/output systems).
- Familiarity with automation, instrumentation, and data management tools to enhance testing environments.
What Won’t Work:
- Exclusively academic or small-volume research lab experience.
- Candidates focused solely on PCB testing without exposure to sensor integration or complex electronic systems.
Why Join Our Client?
This is a chance to be part of a transformative journey, shaping the future of medical diagnostics while working on a product that is truly one-of-a-kind. If you thrive in fast-paced environments and love solving complex challenges, this role offers the perfect platform to make a significant impact.
