The Plant Buyer will work closely with production, quality, maintenance and logistics teams to ensure cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards and minimizing supply chain risks. The position is to use the current ERP and planning tools to minimize both spending and business continuity risk with vendor base.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MRO purchasing services, including finding sources, determining proper items, negotiating price, and writing purchase orders to support maintenance and production teams.
- Identify and develop supplier relationships to ensure continued operations and price competitiveness.
- Partner with Sales for adjusting incoming consumables based on changes by items to forward schedule.
- Partner with maintenance and operations to act as PM on equipment and repair items for specialty items.
- Obtain savings through current and new suppliers while not sacrificing incoming quality.
- Partner with quality to ensure quality systems and incoming material meeting all customer flow down requirements as outlined by quality management.
- Maintain vendor scorecards and publish.
- Participate as part of the team to establish reorder point systems, both visual and computer driven, for maintenance and production MRO supplies.
- Assist in day-to-day activity to perform ERP system transactions and to support needs of the materials management and finance teams. This includes ERP transactions performed by material manager, warehouse support & receiving into ERP system.
- Learn systems used by Materials Manager and act as short term back-up for this position as needed.
- All other activities as directed by the organization as needed per changing business conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in a manufacturing environment, will be considered. Relevant Military experience will be considered equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on cost optimization and efficiency.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Onsite presence required Monday through Friday in Robesonia, PA.
