What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at L & L Inc.?
Responsible for preparing Estimates for the Manufacturing and Installation of Railing, Fencing, Architectural Metals, Miscellaneous Metals ( i.e. Stairs and Landings )
Primary responsibilities
Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare estimates
Understand the project scope and its requirements
Travel to jobsites to identify and gather information on labor, material, equipment and subcontractor requirements as well as IBC & ADA code requirements
Compute labor, material, equipment and subcontractor requirements.
Obtain quotes from vendors and subcontractors, review for accuracy
Create project estimating spreadsheets and prepare estimates in detail for all projects. Review with Sales to insure accuracy prior to submittal to Customer.
Identify and execute strategic opportunities within proposal details to optimize L & L’s position to secure work. (I.E. what processes and procedures set us apart)
Ensure timely completion of estimates
Enter Estimates into Sales Projections spreadsheet.
Follow-up on completed estimates and note status in sales pipeline spreadsheet.
Establish and maintain working relationships with Customers, Vendors, Subcontractors, Engineers and Architects etc.
Collaborate with Customers, Vendors, Subcontractors, Engineers and Architects to insure all relevant data is communicated, accurate and documented.
Maintain cost database by recording data for labor, material, equipment and subcontractor requirements from completed project to use as reference material.
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
Consult with team members to review project requirements to resolve potential issues prior to starting projects.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as requested.
Ensure efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments
Requirements
Proven experience as estimator or similar position
Familiarity with financial and project management principles
High level math skills with an analytical mindset
Proficient in relevant software (Microsoft Excel & Word)
Outstanding communication skills
Thorough and reliable with high level of attention to detail
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Able to read architectural plans and develop cost estimates based on them.
Proficient with Construction takeoff software ( Stack CT ).
Strong understanding of construction processes related to Railing, Fencing and Misc. Metals
Basic Understanding of IBC and ADA codes related to Railing, Fencing and Stairs.
Detailed knowledge of industry processes, materials, and costs
Physically able to walk properties to do site inspections and develop project scopes.
Basic Knowledge of Commercial Construction Industry.
