About the Position

The Finance Assistant will provide essential support in managing financial records, processing transactions, and preparing reports. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience in finance or accounting and be comfortable handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Time will be split between L. Norwood & Associates and a smaller non-profit associated with the organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • AP & AR Transaction Processing: Assist in processing and recording financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Data Entry: Accurately input financial data into accounting software and maintain up-to-date financial records.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist in the preparation of taxes, audits, financial reports, statements, and summaries. Uploading, and assisting with financial documentation for business initiatives. 
  • Reconciliation: Perform bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Invoice Management: Manage and track invoices, including processing payments and ensuring timely settlements.
  • Collections: Monitoring accounts for non-payments and delayed payments.
  • Procurement & Expense Tracking: Monitor and record expenses, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the finance team, including scheduling meetings and organizing financial documents. Must also be comfortable with creating and maintaining new accounts in Bill.com. 
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.

Grant Reporting and Reconciliation

  • Compile and maintain detailed reports for grant givers, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Reconcile grant accounts, verifying consistency between recorded transactions and grant approvals.
  • Collaborate with program managers to gather necessary data and supporting documentation for accurate reporting.

  • Skills & Experience

    • Proven commitment to equity-based political initiatives and a passion for racial justice.
    • Demonstrable cultural competency, and a desire to support and uplift BIPOC youth.
    • Proven experience as a Finance Assistant, Accounting Clerk, or similar role. Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks online, Bill.com) is a must.
    • Education: A minimum of an Associates degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
    • Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) is essential.
    • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative. An ability to keep financial information and sensitive information confidential and secure.
    • An ability to work in the office, and attend in-person events occasionally.


    The Details 

    The Finance Assistant/Bookkeeper role is remote-first, but is California based. Candidates must be able to attend occasional in-person meetings and events in Ontario, California The compensation range is from $25-$32 an hour (depending on experience), working a minimum of 32 hours per week. Employees will work in the Pacific time zone. 

    • A $50 p/ month cell phone benefit,
