Summary/Objective:

 

The Production Manager is accountable for directing the operations at a facility specializing in manufacturing electromechanical assemblies and switchgear for customers who produce power or use it to drive their business.

 

Their main responsibilities include ensuring workplace safety, fostering a positive culture, securing adequate resources, coordinating and scheduling manufacturing activities, and ensuring efficient cost-effective production, timely delivery, and adherence to quality standards.

 

Moreover, they drive productivity improvements through technology, training, and lean practices, while consistently meeting KPI targets.

 

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage all production department staff and their activities.
  • Manage and maintain production department workspace, equipment, and tools.
  • Develop and execute efficient quality, production, and shipping processes, guidelines, and standards, ensuring employee adherence.
  • Develop and communicate the production department schedule to the division. Create, update, and adjust dates to maximize production throughput and ensure successful on-time deliveries in collaboration with all internal and external customers.
  • Develop and implement plans and processes that minimize production costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
  • Work to improve employee flexibility in work assignments and strive to continually reduce labor costs.
  • Estimate and control the production department’s cost budgets.
  • Prepare, and present CAPEX proposals for production department improvements.
  • Meet, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators, and suggest improvements or changes to current reporting metrics.
  • Be a champion of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts and programs.
  • Work with the Procurement, Engineering, and Design groups to improve processes to achieve productivity goals, improve efficiencies, and reduce all forms of waste/scrap.
  • Use forecasting tools and schedules to proactively anticipate staffing needs and skill requirements. Manage the production department staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, coaching, and training employees.  
  • Create a culture that stops to fix and prevents problems to get quality right the first time.
  • Hold regular team communication, ensure urgency, transparency, and accountability, and coordinate support services needed outside the team to meet department requirements.
  • Manage customer expectations and contribute to a high level of customer satisfaction while achieving production targets.
  • Maintenance of all PCS buildings and grounds
  • Prepare and manage all production orders.
  • Determine cost-effective shipping methods and verify that complete orders have been shipped and received per division and customer requirements.
  • Estimate production hours and resource requirements for quoting and project development purposes, as required.
  • Support the Division as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

This position is accountable for managing all manufacturing, shipping, and support employees assigned to the production center.

 

Work Environment:

  • The role entails working indoors in a typical office and industrial environment, as well as traveling outdoors to customer accounts and conducting on-site visits.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses, safety-toed boots, etc.

 

Physical demands:

 

Occasional travel by airplane and/or automobile in conducting business is expected. The ability to communicate orally with customers, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.

 

Activities may involve prolonged periods of standing or sitting, as well as significant time spent working at a computer or similar device. Hearing and vision within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents.

 

Occasional lifting of heavy objects is expected. Good manual dexterity for the use of shop tools, and common office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, Fax machines, etc.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm.

 

Travel required:

  • 10% to customer sites, trade shows, etc.

 

Required education and experience:

  • 2 year electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, or business degree
  • 5 years of experience in the manufacturing of automation systems, electromechanical assemblies, OR switchgear.
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
  • Experience managing teams to deliver results in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and initiate strategies for driving down manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality and on-time delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience in production and manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude, able to interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic drawings and specifications.

 

Preferred education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or manufacturing.
  • Experience implementing automated manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Experience operating with lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic power unit manufacturing.

 

 

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Willing to be on call and respond to customers.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Valid Passport or able to obtain one.
