Position: School Psychologist, Pre-K-12
Employment Status: .8 FTE Continuing position (all in person, no virtual or hybrid option)
Salary: Per adopted Certificated Salary Schedule. Contract to include 6 extra days.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certification with School Psychologist endorsement
· Excellent personal character and commitment to students
· Valid Washington State driver’s license required
· Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
· Fingerprints (successful WSP and FBI clearance)
· Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
· I-9 Employment Eligibility (citizen or legal alien status)
· HIV/HBV Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment)
· Harassment Prevention Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment)
General Job Summary:
The School Psychologist is responsible for conducting special education evaluations, provide written special education evaluations, provide written special education evaluation summary reports within required timelines, and attend IEP meetings. The position will consult with instructional staff, parents, and students regarding the provision of appropriate educations services for all students; will identify, assess, evaluate, and make recommendations for educational placement of exceptional children; will serve as liaison with medical, mental health, and educational communities regarding student needs.

- Support students by working as part of a team to ensure that educational, legal, community, and family needs are met
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the special education process and the essential requirements with regard to WAS 392-172A.
- Coordinates assessment of students referred to special education including pre-referral interventions and Professional Evaluation Group (PEG) assessment
- Participate in the evaluation of students suspected of having a disability
- Participate as a member of the Professional Evaluation Group (PEG) in identifying students with disabilities as outlined in the Washington State Rules and Regulations for Students with Disabilities
- Expedite referrals to other agencies and specialists when appropriate
- Participate in student assistance teams and IEP team meetings by sharing expertise in social emotional development, behavioral health, family structures, and instructional programming
- Assist parents in recognizing the learning characteristics and special needs of their child, and help parents respond and support to those characteristics and needs
- Collaborate with District support staff such as school counselors, and school nurses
- Promote appreciation for cultural and racial diversity among students, demonstrate cultural responsiveness, and willingness to examine implicit bias
- Interface with mental health and juvenile systems
- Develop and maintain a community network system with community family agencies
- Attend various trainings and/or conferences to update skills as requested by the District or building principal
- Implement special assignments and other duties as requested by the District or building principal
- Attend or participate in required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional development
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and current records in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Maintain accurate treatment data to gauge individual and program growth
- Establish and maintain successful working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community
- Express thoughts concisely, accurately and effectively, both orally and writing
- Communicate test results to parents and school staff
- Facilitate data based team decision making, development of appropriate programs, determination of student placements, and monitor effectiveness of interventions
- Manage timelines pursuant to WAC 392-172A-104. Submit all required paperwork within a timely manner, adhering to all federal, state and local laws and policies.
- Knowledge of special education process and procedures
- Provide direct counseling services to students in classroom, small groups, and individually
- Complete Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans as required
- Stay abreast of current trends in the profession and translate appropriate research to practical applications in the areas of counseling, curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Model respect and honor the dignity of all students, staff and parents
- Provide a safe, positive, and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning

Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability
· Demonstrated proficiency in effective communication
· Knowledge of general and special education curriculum, instruction, and the mandates of educational reform in Washington State
· Knowledge of individual and group assessment techniques, data gathering, and statistical analysis
· Knowledge of current technology and computerized data management systems
· Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities including IDEA and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
· Ability to adapt and modify techniques and materials for effectiveness

May require prolonged sitting or standing; occasional bending at waist to floor; may require lifting and positioning students; may require restraining students who are out-of-control; may require assisting students with physical activities; lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds constantly; 11-24 pounds occasionally; 25 pounds and over rarely; good visual ability; must possess excellent hearing to communicate with disabled students, especially when providing individual instruction to those who may have speech impairments; exposed to visual display terminal; possible exposure to diseases carried by children; may represent the district on potentially sensitive or controversial matters.
