Position Overview
As a Firs and Fiddleheads Forest Preschool Summer Camp Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing a safe, nurturing, and spiritually enriching environment for preschool-aged children attending our summer camp program. You will work closely with a team of counselors and camp leadership to facilitate engaging activities, learning experiences, and foster positive relationships with campers and their families. Responsibilities
Program Facilitation
- Lead age-appropriate activities, games, crafts, and songs that promote growth and character development.
- Ensure that all activities align with Firs and Fiddleheads mission, values, and curriculum objectives.
- Adapt activities to accommodate individual differences and special needs of campers.
- Child Supervision and Safety:
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment for all campers at all times.
- Supervise children during all camp activities, including indoor and outdoor play, snack time, and bathroom breaks.
- Implement and enforce camp rules and behavior guidelines in a fair and consistent manner.
Relationship Building
- Build positive relationships with campers by demonstrating warmth, empathy, and respect.
- Actively engage with campers, listening to their thoughts, concerns, and questions with patience and understanding.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with campers' parents or guardians to provide updates on their child's progress and well-being.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other camp staff members to coordinate schedules, share resources, and address any concerns or issues that arise.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
Role Modeling
- Serve as a positive role model for campers by embodying Christian values, ethics, and behaviors in all interactions and activities.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with young children and sharing the love of God with them.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a camp, childcare, or educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of basic principles of child development, behavior management, and safety protocols.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to upholding the Firs and Fiddleheads faith values and fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all campers.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of camp).
- Successful completion of background checks and any other required screenings.
Schedule
- PreKamp starts June 23rd and runs for 9 weeks until August 22nd.
- The daily shift is from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
- Training will be on Thursday, June 18th and Friday, June 19th.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: From $16.66 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
Work Location: In person
