Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) Teacher– La Conner Schools
Employment Status:
.6 FTE Leave Replacement Non-Continuing Position
Ending 4/4/25 with the possibility of extending to the end of the school year
Salary:
Per adopted Certificated Salary Schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
· Possession of a valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for teaching at the secondary level, ideally in English, Science, or Math
· Experience and/or knowledge of Common Core Standards required
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity
· Outstanding instructional skills; demonstrated belief that all students can learn
· An interest in the total development of students
· High energy level and enthusiasm for teaching and learning
Desired Qualifications:
· Experience with variety of ALE models preferred
· Skilled in creating, implementing, monitoring, and supporting project-based learning cross-disciplinary projects.
· Experience in implementing Mastery-Based Learning and standards-based grading.
· Two years’ successful experience teaching high school students.
· Educational technology literacy and knowledge of computers, computer assisted instruction, and word processing
· Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
· Ability to perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school personnel; work as a team member; and meet schedules and deadlines
· Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, and direct support personnel
· Skills in classroom management and organizational techniques
· Adept at building and capitalizing on relationships with local community, business, and service organization members and helping connect students with relevant opportunities and experiences for work-based or internship-based credit.
· Special Ed and/or MLL endorsement desired.
Special Requirements:
· Fingerprints (successful WSP and FBI clearance)
· Valid Washington State Driver’s License and current First Aid/CPR certification
· Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
· I-9 Employment Eligibility (citizen or legal alien status)
· HIV/HBV Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment)
· Safety Care training completed (district will provide)
· Harassment Prevention Training (district will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment
General Job Summary:
The Alternative Learning Environment Teacher is responsible for the design and delivery of Education for students participating in ALE courses at La Conner Schools. Duties include creating, tracking, and reporting on individual learning plans to help students earn high school credit toward graduation; developing and implementing project-based learning units designed to meet student needs and graduation requirements; providing and coordinating out-reach for internships, work-based learning, and other alternative learning opportunities. Maintenance of accurate student education records is essential.
This position is a Leave Replacement role ending 4/4/25 with the possibility of extending to the end of the school year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Comply with existing state and federal laws dealing with alternative learning environment.
- Assess needs of individual students, prescribe individual learning plans, formulate strategies to met those plans and document student progress
- Design, implement, and evaluate additional strategies and programs to enhance student success
- Collaborate with other general and special education teachers and special education para educators to provide supportive assistance for special needs students participating in ALE courses
· Carry out a support role by planning instructional programs for the identified students. Strategies will involve an array of interventions--adaptation of instructional materials, use of appropriate assessment, small group instruction, peer training, school-to-community activities, etc.
- Participate in and contribute to high school staff development as an active member of the high school team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal and the Director of Special Programs
Major Functions:
· Provide daily lesson plans.
· Secure learning materials appropriate to the needs of students.
· Develop Personalized Learning Plans for each ALE student.
· Maintain a positive classroom environment.
· Communicate with parents via informal contacts, regular progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.
· Provide continuous informational feedback to the principal regarding classroom matters.
· Attend staff meetings and serve on high school and other committees as required.
· Participate in the selection of instructional materials.
· Perform other teaching and/or supervising tasks assigned by the principal and/or the director of special programs.

Work is typically performed in and around a student learning environment; may be exposed to childhood diseases; may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time; may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities.
