Position Summary: The La Jolla Environmental Protection Office has a vacancy for a Solid Waste Manager who will be responsible for providing solid waste services to residents on the La Jolla Reservation.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee all aspects of the La Jolla Solid Waste Program, including household trash, CRV program, HHW collection, e-waste, cardboard, and scrap metal recycling
- Manage the annual budget, control costs
- Keep transfer station clean and organized
- Develop the business and new services
- Maintain transfer station facility
- Draft reports and keep logs as required
- Compliance with applicable environmental regulations, including haz waste
- Provide additional solid waste-related services to Reservation residents as needed
- Willing and able to travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc.
- Work weekends and some holidays
- Conduct public outreach or training
- Supervise the Solid Waste Assistant
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and insurable
- Program management & solid waste-related experience or education
- Knowledge of solid waste issues including HHW, e-waste, scrap metal, recycling, composting, etc.
- Is, or able to be, CRV and HAZWOPR certified
- Able to create and manage program documentation, financial reports, budgets, and supervise staff
- Computer knowledge with strong written & verbal communication skills
- Motivated with a strong work ethic
- Able to work with or without direct supervision
- Able to lift up to 70 lbs. and operate equipment such as compactor backhoe.
- Able to work weekends and holidays
