Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision of the Sheriff, performs work of average difficulty in enforcing laws and maintaining order while protecting life and property and performs related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrols an assigned area to preserve law and order
- Investigates a wide variety of calls and complaints
- Writes citations, traffic/boating/criminal
- Investigates both misdemeanors and felonies
- Examines and secures crimes scenes, preserves and processes evidence
- Testifies in court
- Provides emergency first aide
- Identifies, locates and interviews suspects and witnesses;
- Aids other law enforcement agencies
- Initiates reports concerning criminal activity
- Transports prisoners
- Arrests violators
- Recovers stolen property
- Assists in search and rescue operations
- Prepares cases for review by the County Attorney
- Appears in court as a witness; testifies and presents legally obtained evidence
- Assists in training reserve deputies
- Provides educational services to school and other interested groups
- Originates and executes warrants; serves civil actions
- Assists in underwater searches and investigations
- Prepares reports and supports all other divisions of the Sheriff’s Department
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Arizona P.O.S.T. Certified
- Arizona Driver License
- United States Citizen
Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
- Good knowledge of the laws, ordinances, rules and regulations effective in the County
- Knowledge of County geography, its incorporated areas and road network
- First aid methods
- Principles, practices, methods, techniques and equipment used in law enforcement
- Law enforcement investigative techniques
