Community Engagement Coordinator
Overview of Position:
La Plaza’s Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) is responsible for managing and co-creating the Engagement and Empowerment Project (E&E) Framework. The E&E project will develop an Assessment Framework that various hunger relief organizations can utilize as a guide to improve organizational practices. The E&E project will build leadership capacity internally with hunger relief agencies committed to addressing diversity, inclusion and equity, through direct empowerment of the community members. Spanish as a second language is encouraged in this position since most of La Plaza’s members are Hispanics.
Job Duties:
- Work under supervision of the La Plaza Executive Director (ED) and in partnership with the Consulting Team (CT) to co-create and implement the four phases of E&E Assessment Framework.
- Phase 1: Assessment Process for current systems
- Internal: Board of Directors, mission and vision, personal
- External: Service accessibility, outreach efforts and language justice practices.
- Phase 2: Co creating innovative and equitable initiatives to increase equitable access to services and further inclusion and community engagement in the hunger relief system
- Phase 3: Implementation Process
- Phase 4: Evaluation of efforts and development of a training model to further implement the work.
- Coordinates the internal and external organizational assessment processes for La Plaza. Facilitates assessments with La Plaza members both directly and through various alternative platforms. Provide support and oversight to La Plaza’s Community Navigator and Community Outreach in assessments and activities.
- Facilitate and coordinate phase 2 work sessions to discuss assessment findings and co create culturally competent service delivery plans.
- Support La Plaza staff during Phase 3 Implementation Process needs. Ex: Coordinate staff training.
- Creates and facilitates a community-led advisory board for La Plaza. Research training opportunities for the Advisory Board and facilitate training as appropriate.
- Cultivate relationships with La Plaza members in order to identify leadership training needs.
- Work with La Plaza and CT to compile training resources that may be used during and after the implementation process. Research, select and coordinate training with participating agencies and advisory boards.
- Support Consulting Team and La Plaza to create and implement an evaluation process to measure the outcomes and the success of the project. Utilize data and outcomes from the evaluations process for grant and progress reports.
- Provides overall management for the project including ensuring that all deadlines/milestones are met, all relevant documentation is maintained, and data is collected as required.
- Ensure open and ongoing communication between La Plaza and partner agencies in the Valley, provide “check-in meetings” and monthly reports.
- Create marketing and messaging materials to include in brochures, newsletters and social media posts.
- Cultivate relationships across Hunger Alliance (HA) members in order to increase visibility and understanding of the E&E assessment framework and the work done through this project. Identify other HA member organizations who could benefit from the E&E project and provide in person and/or online presentations about the framework and progress.
- Serve as an advocate in the hunger relief systems to ensure that the needs of unrepresented community members are met.
Minimum Position Requirements
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Nonprofit Management, Human Services), Relevant experience may be substituted on a year-by-year basis for the degree.
- Two years of directly related experience working with under-represented, under-served or marginalized populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Conversationally bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Familiarity with and willingness to utilize social media.
- Sound decision-making skills, able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledgeable about community-based resources.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with people from diverse, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and gender backgrounds.
- Strong written skills and oral communication skills.
- Ability to develop and conduct presentations and coordinate training sessions.
- An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias; and a genuine commitment to equity and inclusion.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License and motor vehicle record that meets La Plaza insurance requirements.
- An insured personal vehicle suitable for work-related travel.
- Acceptable background and reference checks.
Preferred Requirement:
- Working knowledge of community engagement and volunteer management
Physical Requirements/Work Setting:
- This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Work generally is conducted in an office environment, but the position requires regular travel and work in the local community.
Position Status –Non-exempt
