La Rabida Children’s Hospital is currently hiring a full-time Inpatient Clinical Manager – RN for evenings, holidays, and weekend hours.
Inpatient Clinical Manager Job Summary :
The Clinical Manager assumes responsibility for patient care and daily ACC and Inpatient Unit operations while facilitating the highest quality of care to the patients and families. The Clinical Manager collaborates with Department and Executive Leaders to ensure safe, quality care for all patients. Serves as a leader and role model within the Inpatient Unit, Nursing Department, and the organization. Demonstrates a commitment to providing patient / family-centered care and team member engagement. Facilitates an environment and climate of enthusiasm, motivation and culture of safety while direct supervision of the Inpatient Unit staff and administrative responsibilities during evening, holiday, and weekend hours.
Inpatient Clinical Manager – Essential Job Functions :
- Patient Care Coordination –
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment by providing care that follows policies and procedures and is in accord with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
- Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and safety precautions
- Provides therapeutic nursing interventions, documentation of medical history, assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Plans, develops, teaches, and monitors the effectiveness of educational programs / in-services for nursing in collaboration with the Education and the interdisciplinary team.
- Establishes and maintains high standards for quality of care and patient safety
- Facilitates continuity of care across the ACC and inpatient unit
- Teaches direct care providers how to assist and train patients and families to optimize patient education and training.
- Serves as a mentor for staff when assuming professional nursing opportunities such as membership on committee internally / externally and in the Professional Nursing Advancement Program.
- Acts as a resource to all members of the health care team related to the provision of care, enhancing the assessment skills of others and determination of realistic goals for the optimal patient outcome.
- Participates in data collection for quality management as it relates to patient care. Writes and investigates occurrence reports to identify actual / potential unsafe working environments and / or practices and ensures implementation of solutions.
- Develops and facilitates evidence-based protocols, policies, and procedures while mentoring staff professional development and input into new processes.
- Encourages staff to consult appropriate clinical resources.
- Acts proactively to address patient and parent concerns utilizing family-centered care principles, promptly investigates, provides feedback to staff, and completes documentation of all complaints on the appropriate form.
- Coordinates admissions with the hospital's Admissions Coordinator and Attending physicians for placement of new patients.
- Partners with the Charge Nurse to coordinate daily patient assignments matching the patient's needs and acuity to the skill of the nurse.
- Functions in the role of the Emergency Treatment Room staff member after hours maintaining complete and accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with EMTALA regulations.
- Functions as Admitting Officer after regular hours.
- Maintains an ongoing assessment of overall patients’ status throughout the shift and documents on the “Handoff” form.
- Actively participates and / or chairs Nursing department and organizational committees and work groups
- Maintains knowledge of clinical and administrative policies and interprets policies efficiently to staff.
- Maintains required job skills and professional competencies.
- Attends required educational sessions.
- Leadership –
- Manages day-to-day operations to ensure high-quality and optimal patient care.
- Ability to assume charge nurse role regularly.
- Assumes administrative responsibility and authority for all hospital departments during the evening, night, holiday and weekend shifts.
Uses conflict resolution process to work through opposing views and maintain collaboration.
What we need from you :
Education : Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
Related work experience : 4 years of pediatric care experience, acute care preferred. Three years of acute care operational leadership experience.
Licensure / Certification : Current Illinois Professional Nursing Licensure
Specialized knowledge & skills : Able to identify problems and deficiencies in a hospital system and work to achieve change. Demonstrates sound judgment and independent decision-making capabilities.
CPR Required : Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.

Pay Range : $85,571.27 - $136,914.03
