What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at Laars Heating Systems Company?
Laars Heating Systems based in Rochester, NH is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for evaluating requirements, making recommendations, and managing projects related to Lean Initiatives, Safety, Quality, and Productivity improvement projects, scrap reduction projects, and new equipment procurement.
Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and manufacturing technologies to support strategic objectives.
- Manage updates and modifications to existing manufacturing processes to support new product launch, including review of new part prints and review of design for manufacturability.
- Create cost comparisons and return on investment calculations to assist in supplier selection.
- Act as subject matter expert for interdepartmental projects and initiatives.
- Create standardized process including all documentation to ensure highest quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Partner with quality to create comprehensive control plan and quality checks to ensure a robust process is delivering good product to our customers. Account for required quality inspector checks.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to production personnel on troubleshooting techniques, and equipment operation.
- Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Process Control Plans. Generate reports and present data on process performance and improvement initiatives.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with design engineers, production personnel, quality control, and other departments to resolve process-related issues and ensure smooth production operations.
- Support the day-to-day needs from operations in order for team to meet KPI’s standardization across all lines.
- Leads the Root Cause Failure Analysis effort to ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
- Coordinate with maintenance, production, and engineering for any major changes to equipment.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another related technical field
Experience/Job Requirements:
- 5-10 years’ experience in a fast paced, customer focused manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing practices and processes including Lean Manufacturing and techniques
- Ability to read prints and understand geometric dimensions and tolerances
- Proficient in standard business-related computer software such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Solidworks
- Experience leading Kaizen initiatives
- Strong continuous improvement and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical information.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lead teams without direct authority
