Responsibilities
- Offer emotional support and encouragement to parents and caregivers facing challenges related to their child's behavioral health.
- Share personal experiences and coping strategies to help families feel understood and less isolated.
- Assist families in accessing community resources, services, and support networks.
- Facilitate group sessions or workshops focused on parenting skills, crisis management, and mental health awareness.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care for families.
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary, helping families navigate urgent situations effectively.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with families.
- Document interactions and progress as required by organizational policies.
Experience
- Lived experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with behavioral health challenges is essential.
- Previous experience in crisis intervention, mental health counseling, or social work is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling and motivational interviewing techniques is a plus.
- Knowledge of behavioral health systems and resources available for families is beneficial.
- Strong mentoring skills to guide parents through their challenges effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with diverse family dynamics.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
