Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing Supervisor to oversee the billing team and operations for our telehealth and laboratory services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing, coding and reimbursement processes, with knowledge in insurance claims, compliance regulations, and revenue cycle management. This role involves supervising a team, ensuring accurate and timely claim submissions, and optimizing billing workflows to enhance financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of the billing department, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in processing claims.
- Oversee billing procedures, coding accuracy, and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.
- Ensure timely and correct submissions of claims for telehealth and/or laboratory services to insurance providers, Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers.
- Monitor accounts receivable (AR), identify trends, and implement strategies to reduce denials and improve collections.
- Train and mentor billing staff, providing guidance on industry’s best practices and regulatory updates.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical staff and administrative teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with medical coding guidelines (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10) and payer policies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of telehealth and laboratory billing regulations, including telemedicine reimbursement policies and laboratory-specific billing requirements.
- Generate reports on billing performance metrics, AR aging, and reimbursement trends for leadership review.
- Assist in implementing billing software updates and technology improvements to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in medical billing with at least 1 or 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in telehealth billing, laboratory billing or both is required.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding and insurance reimbursement policies.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and billing systems.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to manage billing discrepancies and ensure compliance.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) is a plus.
