As a Mechanical Design Engineer III with extensive industry experience, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of precision mechanical systems for our vacuum and leak testing systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to create innovative design solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers. Customers that you will directly interact with turning their system requirements into state-of-the-art intelligent solutions. Working efficiently within LACO product teams and mentoring less experienced technical contributors

Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Lead the design and development of custom machine systems including tooling and fixtures that interface with customer products using various software to support vacuum and leak testing systems.
- Project Management: Ability to manage large complex assigned projects with skills in both mechanical and electrical industrial automation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with customers and internal product teams to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
- Prototyping & Testing: Develop prototypes, performance validation testing, and refine designs to optimize performance and manufacturability.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation by researching new materials, techniques, and technologies to enhance system performance and reduce costs.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, technical reports, and user manuals to support manufacturing and maintenance.
- Compliance: Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations and customer specifications.
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with customers, internal engineers, and shop personnel. Working closely with our customers to make sure that their requirements, deadlines, and needs are met.
- Time Management: Ability to see the big picture but also manage the small details of various projects. Strong desire to put in the time necessary to ensure customer receives on-time delivery.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent solid modeling platform)
- An expert in automated machine design with demonstrated understanding and application of GD&T, material properties, and machining processes.
- Expert in electrical actuator, pneumatic cylinder, and servo sizing calculations.
- Architect of mechanical systems and systems of systems.
- Skilled in tooling mechanism design and application.
- Knowledge of vacuum and leak testing principles is a plus.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- PLC programming and HMI software a plus
- Ability to read, understand and create electrical schematics a plus.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field. (Master s preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in complex machine design, with a focus on manufacturing equipment, vacuum systems, or leak detection systems.
Job Details
- Pay: $120,000 - $130,000 per year depending on experience.
- Shift: Monday through Friday regular business hours with some flexibility in your start and stop times. As well as the ability to participate in our 9/80 work schedule which gives you every other Friday off once eligible.
