Nonprofit media organization Lady Freethinker seeks a part-time reporter/editor to create & manage news articles, petitions and other content related to furthering animal rights, human rights and environmental sustainability, with a heavy emphasis on animal issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced reporter/editor who is familiar with and passionate about animal-rights issues such as factory farming, puppy mills, animals in entertainment, the dog and cat meat trade and more.

This is a part-time, telecommuting position anticipated to be approximately 10-20 hours/week, with a flexible schedule between the hours of 8 AM & 5 PM PST, Monday through Friday. This position has the opportunity to grow into a full-time role for the right candidate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Research compelling topics for LFT content
  • Create eye-catching headlines
  • Write 5-10 articles weekly
  • Edit articles for grammar, accuracy and style, using the Wordpress platform
  • Maintain editorial calendar and publish content in a timely manner according to the news cycle
  • Perform research and outreach for petitions on animal issues
  • Analyze reader response data, noting trends to make informed content decisions

REQUIREMENTS

  • A proven track record of creating successful online content
  • Familiarity with what makes articles compelling to an online audience
  • An eye for images that make people click
  • The ability to produce accurate, concise and interesting copy
  • The ability to spot grammatical, factual and style errors and provide feedback to help writers improve their work
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • A deep understanding of the ethics of the animal rights movement
  • The ability to take direction well, receive constructive feedback, and work independently as needed

DESIRED:

  • Familiarity with online activism and knowledge of current trends in this area
  • Knowledge of how to grow an online audience to increase readership
