The Mechanical Trades Supervisor at Lafayette College will oversee and coordinate the mechanical trades team within the Facilities Operations Department. This role entails managing and directing the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical systems and building automation across campus buildings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and lead a team of mechanical trades workers, including HVAC mechanics, plumbers, electricians, etc.
2. Plan, prioritize, and assign daily tasks and work orders to ensure the timely completion of preventative maintenance and repair activities.
3. Conduct regular equipment audits to identify issues and implement preventive maintenance measures.
4. Coordinate with other departments and external vendors as needed for specialized repairs and installations.
5. Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance technical skills and safety knowledge.
6. Maintain accurate records of work orders, equipment inventory, and maintenance activities.
7. Monitor compliance with safety regulations and protocols, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
8. Participate in the budgeting process by providing input on resource needs and cost estimates for projects and maintenance activities.
9. Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in mechanical trades to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
10. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional development, and continuous improvement.
Education and/or Experience: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each duty. The qualification requirements listed below represent the minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Requires 5 years of experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
3. HVAC certification preferred or 5 years of related experience
4. Master Plumber License preferred or 5 years of related experience
5. Trade school certification preferred.
Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, talk, hear, stoop, crawl, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work indoors or outdoors and be able to evaluate and report on work. Must have specific vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to talk and hear. Occasionally the position requires the employee to work extended or irregular hours. Possess effective communication, judgment, planning, and human resource skills and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position’s responsibility.
