Job Title: Finance Director Department: Administration Reports To: Chief Operating Officer FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time, 40 hours per week Benefits: 13 Paid holidays, PTO, Health coverage Summary: The Finance Director is responsible for managing the financial systems and operations of Lafayette Habitat and providing analysis of financial data to management to enable sound business decisions and ensure the long-term success of the organization. Experience in or willingness to learn job costing, thrift retail, mortgage servicing and lending, nonprofit and government accounting is needed to be successful in this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Finance Director will direct and be responsible for all financial accounting, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, notes receivable, payroll, general ledger, budget, audit preparation, grant administration and financial reports for Lafayette Habitat for Humanity. (S)he will contribute advice for strategic planning and management decisions and ensure that all accounting functions are performed in an accurate and timely manner. In addition, the Finance Director will have general oversight of the LHFH office information systems, including the computer network and phone systems, as well as all insurance and human resource functions across the organization. Qualifications: * Experience & Education: High level of commitment to working as part of a team in support of Habitat for Humanity’s mission and goals Education and skills: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting; CPA a plus A minimum of 5-7 years GAAP-basis accounting experience; mortgage lending accounting experience and/or construction accounting experience also a plus Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook; proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions accounting software. Access and/or database management experience also a plus Knowledge of non-profit accounting practices Exceptional organizational, planning, and collaborative skills Acute attention to details and follow-through Strong writing and listening skills Patient and compassionate attitude and effective interpersonal skills Sound judgment and initiative; ability to work with minimal supervision Proven confidentiality and trustworthiness * Computer Literacy: Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook Experience with Microsoft Access-based databases preferred Use of email and text messaging to communicate * Communications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to direct conversations to productivity Ability to be firm and communicate boldly, when appropriate * General Qualifications Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills Ability to work well with and express compassion to diverse individuals Sensitivity to the strengths and needs of low-income households Capacity to develop and maintain successful and productive relationships with homeowners and co-workers Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding homeowner accounts and interactions Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of insurance Specific Responsibilities: 1. Maintains the general ledger based upon GAAP for all affiliate operations, including retail (ReStore), construction, federal grants, mortgage finance, escrow finance, fundraising, and client services. 2. Develops the operating budget for the affiliate in partnership with the Executive Committee. Monitors budget results and variances. 3. Oversees and carries out the daily accounting functions such as, but not limited to, general ledger entries, overseeing payroll, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, deposits and sales reports for ReStore. 4. Prepares all financial reports needed for governmental and Habitat for Humanity entities, including affiliate Board and committees and Habitat for Humanity International. Presents financials, yearly budget, and financial audit results to the Board of Directors. 5. Ensures ongoing compliance with grants. Grant administration includes submission of periodic reports, expense submissions and assisting with grant application packages and budgets. Occasional collaboration with sub-grantees is required. 6. Sets up and tracks homeowner’s mortgages and escrow accounts in Keystone database, and ensures that information in Keystone agrees with QuickBooks mortgage receivable and escrow accounts. Verifies that appropriate documentation is maintained in the homeowner records. 7. Facilitates annual audit and tax preparation. 8. Maintains strong financial reporting structure including internal control procedures, budgeting and stewardship of assets. Implements and complies with Habitat International internal control processes established for the protection of assets. 9. Develops cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Monitors cash projections and variances and reports these variances to the Executive Director and Executive Committee. 10. Directs insurance and liability issues for the protection of LHFH assets. 11. Regularly reviews financial operations, processes and procedures and recommends changes to optimize efficiency. 12. Monitors my.Habitat (HFHI’s extranet for affiliates) weekly for information and updates that impact LHFH in the areas of finance and accounting, human resources, affiliate insurance, information management and legal/risk management. 13. Serves as the internal point of contact for any issues with the information and telephone systems, and coordinates with paid contractors and volunteers for resolution of problems as well as periodic evaluation of systems for necessary changes or upgrades. 14. Develops, reviews and enforces all necessary records retention policies and procedures, ensuring that adequate and organized filing systems are maintained for both electronic and hard-copy files. 15. Assists any board or committee in need of financial data, budgets or projections. 16. Serves as the team leader for the finance department that includes the Mortgage Services division, and general office management.
