Position Overview:

The Lahaina Community Land Trust seeks an experienced and motivated Insurance Gap Program Manager to lead its critical Keep Lahaina Home program. This program is aimed at supporting Lahaina homeowners in filling insurance gaps to enable them to rebuild their homes and remain in or return to Lahaina. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, lending, insurance and real estate, and be adept at providing hands-on support to applicants throughout the process. This position involves coordinating with various stakeholders, managing applications and eligibility, overseeing funding distribution, and ensuring program goals align with the Lahaina Community Land Trust’s (LCLT) mission of permanent affordability and stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the team in a leadership capacity in the design, development, and implementation of the Insurance Gap program, ensuring effective partnerships with Lahaina fire survivors who lost their homes.
  • Conduct outreach and informational sessions to educate the community, program participants, and other stakeholders about the program, affordability easements, and LCLT’s stewardship program.
  • Establish processes for determining eligibility and selecting program participants based on established criteria, including managing thresholds and weighted lotteries.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to calculate and distribute GAP awards for eligible households based on specific program criteria.
  • Serve as a point of contact and support for applicants, providing guidance and communication with lenders, insurance providers, and other relevant parties.
  • Facilitate, track, and ensure the successful recording of deed restrictions.
  • Utilize spreadsheets and data management tools to track and analyze program progress, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance.
  • Track and report on program performance metrics, including project completion rates, funding distributions, and affordability outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of homeowner agreements, insurance payouts, financial data, and other critical program documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between homeowners, insurers, and lenders, providing ongoing communication, support, and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Adapt and respond to evolving program needs, building processes and workflows that accommodate changing requirements and contexts.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management, affordable housing, real estate, lending, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and data management (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including homeowners, lenders, and insurance representatives.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping and data integrity.
  • Familiarity with construction processes.
  • Experience with real estate transactions, deed restrictions, or lending processes is highly desirable.
  • Comfort and adaptability in dynamic, fast-paced work environments, with a “build the plane while flying” mindset.
  • Strong public speaking, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Starting pay is for a three-month evaluation/training period. Job location includes Lahaina and Kahului, with the possibility of occasional meetings elsewhere. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, a retirement plan with employer matching contributions, and other employee benefits.
