General Summary

The Digital Archivist is responsible for the management, preservation, and accessibility of digital film assets at LAIKA, including DCDMs, DCPs, and other digital assets received from post-production houses. The Digital Archivist will ensure that all materials are cataloged, stored securely, and readily available for various departments, while maintaining the integrity and quality of the assets.

Job Functions

  • Manage the ingestion, organization, and archiving of digital film assets, ensuring accurate metadata and adherence to naming conventions.
  • Perform quality control on incoming and outgoing digital assets, verifying integrity and completeness before distribution.
  • Work with vendors to retrieve and verify post-production materials including DI, DCDMs, and DCPs.
  • Work with LAIKA archivists and production teams to archive digital production assets including storyboards, concept artwork, scripts, etc.
  • Update and maintain internal digital asset management systems, ensuring they are user-friendly and accessible for various stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing materials for internal and external presentations including departmental reviews, film screenings, and promotional events.
  • Support marketing initiatives by providing archived content and coordinating with various departments on media needs.
  • Communicate effectively with the appropriate departments to ensure all materials comply with studio policies and clearance requirements.
  • Stay current on industry best practices for digital archiving and asset management, and implement improvements as needed.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for workflows and processes related to digital asset management.
  • Assist in daily operations and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital asset management, archiving, or a related field, preferably within the film or media industry.
  • Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in film media file formats and standards including DCPs, ProRes, image sequences, etc.; understanding of transcoding and encoding processes.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management software and tools; experience with ShotGrid, Resolve, Premiere, ProTools, AVID Media Composer, or similar software, a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of file transfer services such as Aspera, Hightail, or Signiant.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work collaboratively with technology and production teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, including studio leadership and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems and a proven track record of implementing continuous improvement in archival processes.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works under typical office conditions and is exposed to variable indoor temperatures. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate.
