What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at Laird Family Estate?
The main responsibility for this position will be performing the duties of the Wine Laboratory. This person will provide laboratory support for all wine production activities. He/she is responsible for performing all routine analyses offered by Laird Family.
- Perform all grape maturity, juice, wine, and bottling analysis according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- °Brix by Hydrometer, Densitometer, and Refractometer, Alcohol by Alcolyzer and Ebulliometer, pH, TA, Volatile Acidity, Free SO2 by Aeration Oxidation, Total SO2 by Ripper, Malic Acid, Glucose/Fructose, AAN, NH3, Heat, and Cold Stability, Turbidity, Specific Gravity, etc.
- Chemical additions and inoculations to tanks and barrels.
- Manufacture all necessary reagents used in the laboratory.
- Standardize all reagents.
- Monitor stock of all lab supplies.
- Clean all glassware and plastic, along with a thorough cleaning of the laboratory when needed.
- Be able to work extended hours and weekends during harvest.
- Perform data entry.
- Perform maintenance on all laboratory equipment.
- Reports to Laboratory Director.
- Qualifications:1. Experience working in an analytical laboratory.
- 2. Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Enology is a plus.
- 3. Ability to read, speak, and write English a must.
- 4. Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Candidate must also be able to stand for long periods of time, reach with arms and hands, walk long distances, walk upstairs, sit for long periods of time, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl.
- 5. Able to work with Potassium metabisulfite (SO2)
- 8. Able to work 6 days a week and long hours during peak season.
- 9. Able to work weekends both days, Saturday and Sunday.
- 10. Face protection, lab coat, and other PPE are required during working hours.
