DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :
Responsible to all department functions in support of the hospital�s Mission, Vision and facilities goals. Oversees the staffing of the Sterile Processing team, including hiring, completing evaluations and training. Handles budget planning and manages regulatory compliance and quality initiatives to ensure appropriate patient care and maintain cost efficiency for the organization. Provides leadership, expertise and functional direction to Sterile Processing Leads to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
SUPERVISION : Reports directly to Director of Surgery
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Selects, develops, supervises and evaluates staff.
Oversees staff productivity and ensure production is standardized and compliant with JC, AAMI, OSHA and LCMHS departmental and health service policies and procedures.
Coordinates the processing and reassembly of medical supplies, equipment and instrumentation with user departments.
Establishes and maintains quality control systems as they relate to infection control and prevention, sterilizer monitoring, packaging and processing in accordance with hospital and departmental policy and regulatory agency requirements.
Maintains adequate inventories and distributes supplies as required to meet internal customer service and patient care demands.
Demonstrates knowledge in generating and interpreting statistical, productivity and quality performance reports and utilizes the data to improve the department's performance.
Communicates effectively with Surgical Staff and Surgeons.
Effectively utilizes time management and prioritization to complete projects in a timely manner. Must be able to work rapidly, accurately and meet deadlines.
Ascertains OR needs for scheduled and non-scheduled cases.
Demonstrates the ability to maximize resources and is skillful in adjusting resources according to workload and volume.
Develops written policies / procedures and initiates adherence.
Demonstrates knowledge of supervision principles by consistently utilizing problem analysis, group dynamics and staff skills analysis in an objective manner and effectively manage department personnel and resources.
Incorporates Healthy Workforce in daily practice.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Business required, Healthcare Management or related field preferred. Graduate of an accredited Central Services Technician or Surgical Technology course.
A minimum of five years supervisory / managerial experience required; preferably in Sterile Processing. Minimum of 3 years Clinical Healthcare experience preferred.
Computer skills to prepare reports.
Current certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists or the International Association of Health Care Central Service Materials Management registry body.
Thorough knowledge of asepsis, principles of decontamination, disinfection, sterilization and infection control, surgical techniques, instrument care and maintenance, patient care equipment and associated consumable supplies and their use.
Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills; Ability to communicate orally and in written form. Must be detail oriented.
Requires emotional stability and maturity; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability. Must be team oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
Work involves a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting.
Be able to lift 25lbs or less.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time and utilize a PC.
Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices.
May require off-site travel and shift work depending on the needs of the department.
