What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer Grounds position at Lake County Forest Preserve District?
SUMMARY
The Laborer – Grounds Maintenance position assists in keeping buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, and in maintaining and repairing minor utility system breakdowns. Mows and trims turf areas; collects and disposes of refuse; maintains piers, boat docks, ramps, garden amenities, barrier posts, fences, District signs, picnic tables, comfort stations, playground equipment, and shelters; includes lake management. Assists with interior building maintenance, including cleaning floors, restrooms, and fixtures. Assists tradespersons and other skilled laborers with various construction and/or repair projects. Assists with maintenance and operation of all machinery (i.e., mowers, tractors, pumps) used in grounds and building maintenance. Will be required to perform weekend preserve maintenance duties. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. Performs heavy lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.
EXPERIENCE
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. No formal education required. Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance, motorized equipment (i.e., front-end loader, tractor, riding mower, watercraft, and other pieces of motorized equipment) and vehicles. Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to grounds maintenance and construction projects. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Anticipated starting rate: $20.75.
