ARE YOU TRAINED TO SAVE LIVES? The East End YMCA in Madison is hiring a part time Aquatics Coordinator.
Shift: Evenings and weekends. Work up to 28 hours per week.
Starting Pay Rate: $15 per hour and a FREE YMCA Family Membership.
Requirements:
- 1. Supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Assist the Aquatics Director with interviewing, hiring, and reviewing and evaluating staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Adjust staff schedules and assist with the review of timecards.
- As needed, adjust class rosters; supervise program activities during the first week of a session to ensure all staff and member needs are met and oversee at least one additional class per session to ensure uniformity among class instruction.
- Step in to cover classes or lifeguarding.
- Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Assist with pool shutdown and cleaning.
- Schedule in-services and all relevant training for aquatic safety including lifeguarding, swim instruction, and first aid/ CPR training.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- As needed, assist with team practices and home meets communications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18.
- Two years of lifeguarding or related experience. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of computers. Phone skills, communication, typing/ data entry/ office management software/ basic knowledge of office equipment and related software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Self-starter able to handle multiple tasks under limited supervision, work well in a team setting and be detailed oriented.
- Certifications: Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA Lifeguarding, Red Cross, International Lifeguard Training Program Ellis & Associates or International Lifeguard Training Program Ellis & Associates Lifeguard certification) including Basic Life Support/Professional Rescuer Level CPR and First Aid.
- Emergency Oxygen Administration certification preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with individual’s certification standards.
- YLGI and/or Red Cross certification completed within 6 months of hire.
- Complete Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certifications within one year of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Medium work. Exerting 75 pounds of force rarely (i.e. removing someone from the pool in a rescue), and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is subject to noise.
- There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- Frequently subject to environmental conditions- heat and humidity both inside and outside. May occur mostly outside.
- Ability to: Pass lifeguard water test; stand, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods; use hands and fingers for fine motor skills frequently. Walking on a variety of uneven surfaces and climbing stairs frequently. Have visual acuity to determine safety and security of participants in the program as well as the facility. Receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word. Read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
