What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yoga Instructor position at Lake County YMCA?
DO YOU ENJOY TEACHING YOGA? The East End YMCA in Madison is hiring yoga instructors.
Shift:
- Tuesday mornings
- Tuesdays, 7:00pm - 8:00pm
- Wednesdays, 6:00pm - 7:00pm.
Starting Pay Rate: $14.00 starting rate and a FREE Family YMCA membership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Able to teach yoga classes to students of varying skill levels, experience, and interests.
- Assist class members during the yoga class by correcting their posture or positions as needed.
- Demonstrate different poses or sequences of poses during class to ensure that participants are performing them correctly.
- Observe participant’s behavior and provide guidance when necessary.
- Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational sessions. Instruct lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having/ following prepared plans accordingly.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA. Identify and celebrate the successes of members and program participants.
- Handle and resolve incidents and hazardous conditions and inform supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Preferred certifications: CPR, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Able to complete training/certification in areas of expertise.
- Complete YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise within 60 days of hire.
- At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to conduct classes and activities and perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- Ability to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch frequently throughout the work shift. Squatting, jumping, running, balancing, lifting and repetitive motion may be needed depending on group exercise style/ type. Walk throughout the facility frequently and may need to climb stairs occasionally. Have visual acuity to determine safety, security, and assessment of participant’s movements. Receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word.
