The Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) is seeking one full-time long-term (up to 1,000 hours) intern to assist with administrative support for SMC Program Management.

Please note this position is full-time long term up to 1,000 hours.  No need to apply if you are unable to work full-time for up to, but not to exceed 1,000 hours. 


Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all the following duties, and perform related duties as assigned:

  • Program Management Support will include, but not limited to:
    1. Communication and collaboration between SMC and homeowners, stakeholders, and various government entities
    2. project cost tracking
    3. property transfer assistance
  • Bid Administrative Support will include, but not limited to:
    1. maintaining bid files
    2. asbestos abatement planning and supervision
    3. bid development and writeup
    4. bid opening
    5. bid tabulation
    6. bid award and rejection notices
    7. reference checks for winning bids
    8. performance bonds
    9. liability insurance
    10. gathering required documentation for bids
  • Demolition Project Administrative Support will include, but not limited to:
    1. maintaining demolition files
    2. scheduling demolitions
    3. permit support
    4. notice to proceed checklists
    5. Habitat for Humanity and Recycling/Reuse coordination
    6. site compliance and supervision
    7. site documentation
    8. coordination with other Lake County departments to facilitate utility disconnects
    9. purchase and payment requests
    10. maintaining accounting and budget balances
  • intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • ability to work both inside and outside in variable conditions
  • willing to engage in limited to moderately strenuous physical activity
  • highly motivated, be willing to take initiative and coordinate with project managers to ensure assigned work items are completed on schedule
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software is highly desirable but not required
  • high level of attention to detail
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • graduate of, or student in, a 2- or 4-year higher education program
    • emphasis on environmental science, engineering, geography, urban planning, hazard or disaster (specifically flood) mitigation planning and who have an interest in local and federal government processes
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION

    • Most of the work will be in the office but field visits are a possibility so candidate must be able to work both inside and outside in variable conditions and engage in limited to moderately strenuous physical activity

The candidate will work approximately 40 hours per week for up to 15 weeks. The desired start date is flexible. Class credit may be available; please check with your academic advisor. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
