    Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 is seeking a Director of Teaching and Learning (12 month/260 days). The Director of Teaching and Learning is a creative, dynamic, and thoughtful leader who works to fulfill the mission and vision of Lake Forest School District 67.

    Position Summary:
    The Director of Teaching and Learning will be responsible for leading, overseeing, and coordinating the district’s instructional programs and initiatives, with a focus on improving student outcomes, supporting educators, and ensuring alignment with state and federal standards. This role involves developing and implementing curriculum, providing professional development opportunities for staff, evaluating instructional staff, assessing instructional effectiveness, and fostering a collaborative learning environment across all schools in the district. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring that all educators are supported in their growth and are held accountable for delivering high-quality instruction.

    Qualifications:

    • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement required
    • Master Degree in School Administration, or related field
    • Teacher and/or Administrator Evaluator Designations (preferred, but may be obtained)
    • Demonstrated success as a teacher and administrator
    • Demonstrated experience in data-driven decision-making and the use of student performance data to guide instructional practices
    • Experience in leading professional development initiatives and supporting teacher growth
    • Experience with teacher evaluation processes and providing feedback to enhance instructional quality

    Competencies:

    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
    • Deep knowledge of K-8 curriculum, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies.
    • Proficiency in using technology for instruction, data analysis, and professional development.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

    Essential Functions:

    • Oversee the work of the Teaching and Learning Department, including curriculum, curriculum development, standards work, instructional practices, resource adoption, professional learning, coaching, educational technology, and learning spaces
    • Support and oversee district coaches, specialists, and building coaches
    • Oversee the Multilingual Program including support for the multilingual specialists, entry of new students to the program, and state-mandated ACCESS tests
    • Collaborate with the other directors to ensure the alignment of their work (including assessment, inclusive practices, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, and safety) with the work of the Teaching and Learning Department
    • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and instructional leaders to ensure curriculum coherence across grade levels and subject areas
    • Lead curriculum reviews through collaborative teams and committees of teachers and administrators
    • Promote equity and inclusion in curriculum design, ensuring that materials are culturally responsive and accessible to all students
    • Coordinate the district’s grading and reporting, assessment systems, and assessment logistics including communication to buildings as well families
    • Provide high-level, purposeful, and engaging professional learning for staff to meet teaching and learning goals
    • Work collaboratively with building administrators, teachers, and staff to support the needs of the schools
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to teachers to improve classroom instruction and student engagement
    • Oversee resource allocation for teaching and learning by managing a budget that involves a number of different district departments
    • Facilitate educational committees in the district
    • Evaluate designated staff

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, and hear in a variety of settings from a desk, to an office, to a classroom, to a gymnasium, or board room. The employee regularly works in the evenings or on weekends. The employee frequently works with the use of a personal vehicle. The employee will have contact with employees and the public which requires appropriate demeanor and apparel.
