Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Teaching and Learning, will manage instructional design, development, and revision for non-credit courses. Responsibilities will include working with instructors and other SMEs to design and develop new courses; using market research, student feedback, and inputs from instructors and SMEs to plan updates to existing courses, and then working with instructors to implement those updates; and monitoring trends and innovations so that the learning experience in UCPE’s courses are both outstanding and cutting edge.

This position requires a passion for learning design for professional, adult audiences. The ideal candidate will have the ability to think strategically about new program development across a variety of modalities, audiences, and formats, and bring an energetic, solution-focused mindset to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops engaging online, in-person, and hybrid courses guided by adult learning principles.
  • Participates in conversations with instructors, employers, and other SMEs to identify skills gaps and professional development needs, and use that intelligence to drive program creation and revision.
  • Synthesizes inputs from course evaluations, market research, and conversations with SMEs to drive program revision and optimization.
  • Works with instructors, staff, and other partners to implement program revision plans.
  • Establishes and monitors goals and KPIs for revised courses, including enrollments, student satisfaction, and outcomes
  • Creates course sites, organizes course materials, designs assessments and surveys, provides course enrollment/scheduling support (live and online), and responds to requests for program delivery and technical support when required.
  • Monitors developments in professional education and educational technology and identifies opportunities for innovation.
  • With some direction from others, performs a variety of IT activities supporting an e-learning environment, such as designing curriculum content.
  • Analyzes resources and services ranging from basic online courses to application of technology in teaching. This competence is developed by performing structured work assignments.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-graduate education in learning design or instructional services.

Experience:

  • Background creating learning materials and/or teaching in higher education institutions.
  • At least three years of related work experience is required in learning design.
  • At least three years of related work experience in a relevant setting for a company, university, or relevant complex organization.
  • Highly skilled project manager comfortable with multi-tasking and multiple deadlines.

Technical Skills Or Knowledge:

  • Proficient with learning technology tools such as Canvas.
  • Solid digital communications skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
