Job Description
Banquet Captain
Reports to: Food & Beverage Managers
FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Summary: Assumes responsibility of banquet operations for Lake Nona Golf & Country Club on an on-call basis. Responsible for set-up & cleanliness of all dining rooms, meeting rooms, bars, side stations & common areas.
Job Tasks/Duties
- Supervises all banquet staff including hosting pre-shifts and event familiarization meetings, assignment of side work schedule, table, and station assignments.
- Interfaces with all departments in the Club to ensure a seamless experience for members & guests.
- Displays the highest standards in work ethic, performance, appearance, attitude & demeanor in all interactions with Members & staff alike.
- Sees to it that tables are set according to standards- proper placement, polished glassware & silverware.
- Checks dining area for cleanliness- including, tables, linens, floors & chairs- correct any faults immediately.
- Coordinates food service between kitchen & service staff.
- Responsible for full knowledge of menu items & sequence of service.
- Communicates with the kitchen throughout the meal letting them know if timing of the event is slower/ faster than expected.
- Provides on-going training for all banquet employees.
- Provides direction & BEO’s when banquet staff arrive.
- Informs F & B Manager, Executive Chef (Catering Manager- when applicable) of any & all comments/ complaints.
- Maintains inventories & consumption reports during consumption bar events.
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings.
- Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining areas, equipment, and fixtures.
- Assists with a la carte operation & training during banquets slow season.
- Ensure that all banquet servers are well groomed according to policy and in their proper uniform.
- Accountable for all banquet checks transacted in the to ensure they have been properly entered and closed to the proper accounts.
- Responsible for the inventory of all china, glass, and silverware.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a Club, fine dining or similar environment.
- A thorough understanding of wine and experience in wine sales promotion programs.
- Creative, energetic, engaging and a highly visible manager to the staff, management, membership, and guests.
- Strong understanding of club industry technology, preferably Jonas software
- Hospitality/Business Management education a plus
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with members and staff.
- Commitment to first class service
- Ability to articulate thoughts and actively listen to communicate effectively with co-workers, members, and guests.
- Ability to demonstrate proactive hospitality by taking the initiative to approach members, guests and coworkers with a positive and upbeat attitude.
- Demonstrated track record of showing responsibility through taking ownership of issues and following through.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- This position includes (long periods of) balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in hot conditions for long periods of time.
- Must be physically able to do assigned work as outlined above.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
