Job Summary
The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for educating current and potential students by providing information on financial aid policies and procedures including, but not limited to, Satisfactory Academic Progress, federal and state aid eligibility, and Professional Judgement requirements. The Financial Aid Specialist manages the student contact through written, oral, telephonic, and electronic communication.
Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.
Some evenings may be necessary to assist with financial aid presentations. This position will be primarily based on the South Lake Clermont Campus.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse community of students.
- Maintains office coverage for phones, email, chat, and walk-in students.
- Hire, train, and supervise Financial Aid student workers.
- Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Ability to assume new job duties that align with the goals and organizational structure of the college.
- Determine eligibility and assist the financial aid counselors in maintaining the Bright Futures program and other state program recipients.
- Review and process Consortium agreements between other institutions.
- Assist financial aid staff with verification and awarding of financial aid files.
- Collecting and reviewing documentation for C Flags.
- Maintain financial aid files and electronic records.
- Review and Recommend updates to the LSSC financial aid website.
- Responsible for reviewing and collecting all necessary documentation for all Unusual Enrollment History students.
- Update job procedures in the Department’s Training Manual.
- Assist in facilitating on and off-campus workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of Banner or comparable software programs.
- Working knowledge of federal regulations for financial aid programs.
- The incumbent must be flexible, adaptable to changes, and able to work effectively in a mature professional manner in a variety of settings in cross-cultural situations.
- Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with college employees, students, and the public.
- Demonstrated strong mathematical aptitude and strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Knowledge of Excel, Microsoft XP, and other Windows-based programs.
Minimum Qualifications & Education
- Education Required: Associate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Experience Required: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in clerical work including duties, which include customer service experience.
- Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
