SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. The college is seeking an adjunct professor and visiting artist for spring quarter 2025 (March 31 through June 11). This position will co-teach ART 430 Undoing Erasure in Art History.

Course Description :

This important class serves two key roles in preparing students to join the global art world. Students will tabulate significant advancements in art history, especially as it applies to commercial art and illustration. During this tabulation of art history, artists who have been historically unrepresented or underrepresented will be distinguished and their impact on contemporary art audited.

ourse Outcomes : Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to : Highlight significant art movements and schools across the globeDiscern the obvious and public participants and beneficiaries associated with historical art movementsContrast artists and communities underrepresented or not represented in historic art movementsJudge how to add historical context to specific art movements and increase representationBalance narrowly represented art styles with broader cultural art styles from a contemporary time periodIn addition to teaching, this position will collaborate with other art faculty to provide presentations, demonstrations, and student consultations in other art classes.

Teaching will occur in a fully online class and will include sharing of teaching materials, interaction with students in online discussion boards, feedback on assignments, etc. Visiting artist hours may occur in the morning, afternoon, and / or evening and are typically on campus. Fifty (50) hours will be contracted in total, with additional payment for curriculum development with the co-teacher. The college hires adjunct faculty on a quarter-by-quarter basis, dependent on class schedule and enrollment. Co-teach college-level art history, with focus on equitable representation in art and illustration educationCo-teach to the learning outcomes of the approved curriculumIn partnership with co-teacher :

Use effective teaching practices to promote equitable student learningApply transparency in teaching and learning to class policies, materials, and assessmentsFacilitate an inclusive class cultureUse current college learning management systems and integrate best practices in online learningDevelop and teach lessons which foster and support equitable student learning and cultural diversityTeach productive and constructive study skills to studentsDevelop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and proceduresMaintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirementsPost the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (Canvas)Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students

Collaborate with art faculty to provide presentations and demonstrations in multiple art classesConsult with student artists about their workQUALIFICATIONS

Compensation Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.
